“Can something be more real than real life? This comedy show blows life wildly out of proportion and into your face. Our sketches breathe on your neck, whisper in your ear and make you breakfast the next morning.”
Should you see it?
Sketch comedy isn’t always my favourite thing to see at Fringe. Maybe because I’ve had bad experiences in the past (a lot of people have friends who think they’re funny). I preface this because by having no expectations at all for EFT Up: Just Like You, I got to be pleasantly surprised by some very funny work.
The gang from EFT Up – Dani Alon, Amanda Elbeck, Colin Giles, Chris Hannay, Allison Harris, Amanda Parker, and Kristine Shadid – have some very funny sketches in the mix and most sketches got a couple of good laughs from me and a very entertained house. It’s obvious that they worked their material and have put the time into their chemistry and how they work together as well as into honing their material.
The opening sketch was easily my favourite. I’ll be hearing “Hey, Hendersons!” in my dreams for days. Cards FOR Humanity, a take on Cards Against Humanity was also nice and unexpected but I can’t help feeling there’s more they can mine from that.
Also, songs. The couple of songs they played were among the strongest and most enjoyed bits of the show. I think a non-zero percentage of their audience would be willing to buy those up on iTunes.
If you’re in it for the laughs, keep EFT Up on your list.

But that’s just my opinion and I’d love to know what you think? Which of EFT Up’s sketches did you love best? And how about those songs? Join the discussion in the comments below.
